Create Dance and Acrobatics

Designed for the young dancer this class is a creative movement-based class introducing elements of rhythm, body awareness, basic ballet vocabulary, and dance class structure. Class time is combined with locomotor and pre-acrobatic skills such as gentle strength building, flexibility training and balance elements.

Pre-Ballet and Acrobatics

(Cecchetti Primary) This class combines elements of creative movement with an increased emphasis on ballet fundamentals: posture, rotation, positions of the feet and arms, basic steps and terminology. Class time is combined with locomotor and pre-acrobatic skills such as gentle strength building, flexibility training and balance elements.

Ballet I

(Cecchetti Grade 1) Students in this class begin their more serious classical training with barre exercises, laying the foundation for their advancing class studies. Particular attention is given to the use of the arms and head, the coordination of flowing movement and the strength required for more challenging movements. Class time is combined with locomotor and acrobatic skills including strength building, flexibility training and balance elements. Students are encouraged to study other dance forms.

Ballet II

(Cecchetti Grade 2-3) This class builds on the skills acquired in Ballet I, building stamina and concentration with longer classes held multiple days per week. Students will refine the fundamentals learned in Ballet I and be introduced to a variety of new steps, terminology and skills. Class time is combined with locomotor and acrobatic skills including strength building, flexibility training and balance elements. Students are encouraged to study other dance forms.

Ballet III

(Cecchetti Grade 4-5) This class serves as a bridge between beginner and more advanced levels of training. Students work to refine steps learned at previous levels and combine them in more complicated patterns. The classes stresses anatomical awareness and teaches students to apply that knowledge as they learn new movements. Class time is combined with advancing acrobatic skills essential to today’s choreographic demands. Students are encouraged to study other dance forms.

Junior Ballet/Pre-Pointe

(Cecchetti Grade 6-7) Students at this level have studied dance for several years and have a solid understanding of ballet technique. This class builds on the skills learned in Ballet III and introduces elements of pre-pointe: releve, leg alignment, core strength and technical precision. Students are encouraged to study other dance forms.

Senior Ballet/Pointe

(Cecchetti Grade 8-10) Students at this advanced level train multiple days a week as they tackle the rigors of pointe work, classic variations and contemporary choreography. Students focus on developing the artistry of dance while continuing to perfect technique. Students are encouraged to study other dance forms in preparation for college, careers or lifelong dance involvement.

Tap

An American Dance Form. Through tap, students learn to not just dance to music but to make music through percussive footwork.

Jazz

…is fun! Synonymous with Jazz music, Broadway Dance and Movie Musicals, Jazz is all about style! Dancers learn use of the torso in isolations, contraction and counter tension. Port de bra unique to jazz is emphasized while executing fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns. Proper technique is applied encouraging each student to dance with expression and individuality.

Modern

Students learn the fundamentals of this American art form such as fall and recovery, contraction and release, weight shifting and sharing. Modern dance is a style of dance started in the early 20th century that allows dancers the freedom to express deeper, more personal inner feelings.

Hip-Hop

This contemporary form of dance evolved from street culture and pulls elements from a number of dance styles, including break dance. Expressing the inner rhythms of the music is key.
